February brings to mind love and relationships and all forms of its expression.  Here is what’s inspiring me now.

Just Kids, Patti Smith’s memoir and winner of the 2010 National Book Award for nonfiction is not to be missed for anyone who lived in the late 60’s and 1970’s or wants to understand more about that period and its’ impact on this artist and her relationship with Robert Mapplethorpe.  To read an excerpt visit http://www.spinner.com/2010/11/17/patti-smith-book/.http://www.spinner.com/2010/11/17/patti-smith-book/.

A classic, beautiful vase that is always in style is architect Alvar Aalto‘s Savoy (Finnish for “wave”) vase suggestive of the profile of a Finnish lake.  Go to http://www.finnstyle.com/laraalvas.html and tightly pack it with a single hue of your favorite flower trimmed to a uniform height for a modern look.

A group of Zulu weavers uses remnants from insulated copper telephone wire purchased from a factory in Pretoria, South Africa.  This group, known as Wire Weavers, makes each basket a uniques work of art.  Use singly or in a group to make an interesting composition for your table, wall or cabinet.  Find yours at http://www.eco-artware.com/catalog/bw-telephone-wire-baskets.php?c=bowls

These bags are made in Brazil with candy wrappers, soda tabs and other recycled materials.  By purchasing one of these great looking Ecoist handbags a tree will be planted in an area that has been identified as environmentally sensitive by either natural or industrial changes.

Faux Bois is a French term originally referring to furniture made to imitate wood branches, logs or bark textures.  I like to apply this term to all sorts of modern day objects d’art, jewelry and interior design items seen in today’s marketplace.

Recently, a dear friend of mine gave me a wonderful tree necklace.

Available on http://www.amazon.com/Gold-Toned-Metal-Tree-Necklace/dp/B000RN7D7S

Which naturally led me to notice all the faux (and real) bois in my daily travels.  Take a look at some of these fantastic creations.
