Today my blog is dedicated to my friend Deborah Deming, a lovely, talented and sensitive woman who loved all things green, natural and of the earth. Here are some pieces that I think she would have approved of:

Red Prairie Press, owned by artist & printer Rachel Bone and her husband Phil Davis, makes designs by hand in their basement shop in Baltimore, MD with sweatshop free apparel using water-based inks and discharge paste.. Check out their blog to learn more at  This fern print spot is available online at ETSY go to

Lost Property of London fashions these chic bags from discarded coffee sacks.  That is repurposing that is beautiful.

Named the “Vivienne Westwood of eco” by Elle Magazine, Linda Loudermilk designs  eco-friendly clothing that is edgy, creative and high end.  The tree patterned pieces from her Spring 2011 collection are particularly amazing.

I love druzy, those sparkly baby crystals, often found inside geodes, that seem to be everywhere right now.   Why?  These pieces reflect light beautifully and can be very striking, especially when colored in an outrageous hue like hot pink or emerald green.  Here are some pieces that I find particularly brilliant:

Pillowy Pink Drusy and Pearl Ring $220

Devon Leigh Free Form Drusy Geode Ring $615

Rachel Roy Drusy and Crystal Ring $42

Faux Bois is a French term originally referring to furniture made to imitate wood branches, logs or bark textures.  I like to apply this term to all sorts of modern day objects d’art, jewelry and interior design items seen in today’s marketplace.

Recently, a dear friend of mine gave me a wonderful tree necklace.

Available on

Which naturally led me to notice all the faux (and real) bois in my daily travels.  Take a look at some of these fantastic creations.

MICHAEL ARAM’S Copper Bark Vase looks like a Birch tree Trunk.

ECO-TREE colored pencils made of real bark!  Available online at

MARTHA STEWART’s FAUX BOIS AREA rug for  HOME DECORATOR’S COLLECTION is a swell way to introduce faux bois to your abode.

And even a pendant lamp in a dark faux bois from LAMPS PLUS…/lights-up-faux-bois-dark-lamp-shade-12x14x10- spider__g7189.html is amazing!  A light color version is also available.

And I must include a 1960’s faux bois dress-groovy.  Available at ETSY.…/the-woodyallenfauxboisdress

Los Angeles County Museum of Art Exhibit FASHIONING FASHION is a fabulous exploration of the techniques, materials and methods of constructing fashion as well as the aesthetics from 1700 to 1915.  Be prepared to be dazzled by lots of embroidery and trimmings including fringe, beads and feathers!  On view until March 6, 2001.

Speaking of feathers, I cannot wait until Burlesque opens this month. Loads of vampy and campy costumes!  Fun and fabulous with Cher, Christina Aguilera and Stanley Tucci as our guides this is sure to be one over the top confection for the eyes and ears.

Why?  Because as Valentino said “I love beauty, it’s not my fault.”

RACHEL ROY Drusy and Crystal Loop Earrings

Taking something common and repurposing it – not only green but whimsical too!
