I think I may have been a showgirl in another life.  I just go crazy over feathers-ostrich, peacock, maribou, you name it, I love it.  I had so much fun searching for my favorite feather pieces that it was hard to stop.  Here is the best of the flock.

This knock-out coat by Alexander McQueen is made fabulous with feathers plus mink, fox, goatskin and crocodile. For those will deep pockets, this piece is priced at over $25,000.  Available at

Lace and feathers go together beautifully. Here are two dresses that prove the point. This sweet pink and black number you can buy at

For those with a need for the rarefied …. this dress, recently seen on Emma Watson in London at the Harry Potter UK premiere, may be available through special inquiry of Rafael Lopez for Atelier Mayer.

Aaaahhh, the feather mini.  This is a versatile item to own.  You can actually dress it down by pairing it with a denim button down shirt and flat soled boots.   Dress it up with a feminine silk top and satin sandals.   Make it hip and edgy with over the knee boots and chain t-shirt. Pink skirt available at Black skirt available at  Beige skirt available at

Accessories are a great way to add feathers to your look, if a dress or skirt seems a bit too much for you.  Here are two stand-out purses. Buy at

Today my blog is dedicated to my friend Deborah Deming, a lovely, talented and sensitive woman who loved all things green, natural and of the earth. Here are some pieces that I think she would have approved of:

Red Prairie Press, owned by artist & printer Rachel Bone and her husband Phil Davis, makes designs by hand in their basement shop in Baltimore, MD with sweatshop free apparel using water-based inks and discharge paste.. Check out their blog to learn more at  This fern print spot is available online at ETSY go to

Lost Property of London fashions these chic bags from discarded coffee sacks.  That is repurposing that is beautiful.

Named the “Vivienne Westwood of eco” by Elle Magazine, Linda Loudermilk designs  eco-friendly clothing that is edgy, creative and high end.  The tree patterned pieces from her Spring 2011 collection are particularly amazing.

The best way to brighten up a dull wintry day?  A great hat.  Back in the 1900’s through the era of Jackie O and the now-iconic pillbox hat, a lady always wore a hat (and gloves-we’ll chat about that topic another day).  Now it takes either a Mad Men inspired party or a cold or rainy day to don a hat.  Here are my top picks:

On the left:  A quirky combination of bohemian hippie chic  with its’ wide band and braided fringed tassels meets uptown girl with its’ panther print.  A hat that either you (or JLo) can rock.  Wear it with a fitted black sweater dress or a pair of bootleg jeans and a longer length tee or blouse and you’ll look great.  Fur Canyon hat in available at Barneys NY $225 at

On the right, a camel colored version without the extra embellishments $46.55 available at

Military Style is everywhere.  You’ll be in shipshape form with this crisp cap pictured on the left by Jessica Simpson.  $28 available at  On the right is Calvin Klein‘s version for $40.  Note the interesting zipper band detail. Available at

Trapper Hats are huge this winter.  Combine with shearling lining like the UGG version on the left $175 or faux fur like the hat by Cassin $135 on the right and you will have a hat that will not only keep you warm but you’ll be perfectly au courant.  Available at

Okay, so you aren’t going to wear these beauties to the office – uh, unless you work at Vogue, but for that special occasion these hats are stunning. Who can resist? Not for the shy-you will be noticed!  Eugenie Kim Cloche Ombre Feather Velour hat $485 on the left and Diane Von Furstenburg Shiloh hat on the right $285.

Continuing my focus from yesterday’s blog on holiday shoes, here are my picks for the best holiday dresses featuring interesting details.

My favorite Los Angeles fashion designer, ROBERT RODRIGUEZ,  really knows how to create a beautifully detailed garment.  Take a look at this fabulous teal one shoulder dress with feather detail at the waist.  This silhouette is flattering for all figure types and most excellent for curvy gals.  Take note of how this is dress is styled with black leather gloves, lace stockings and black booties making this look rock.  Personally, I’d choose a big scale choker necklace with a reflective or sparkly quality like rhinestones, or lucite with lots of silver chain to complete this look for a holiday party.

VALENTINO’s nude dress with black lace details is stunning.

NANETTE LEPORE has a platinum colored cowl neck dress richly embroidered with tribal detailing.

L.A.M.B. has a cleverly detailed ponte knit dress featuring a collar and puffed sleeves of leather.  I love the contrast of the smooth leather against the textured knit.
