What will the fashion forecast for the new year mean in terms of real dressing for real people?  As a faithful and studious observer of all things fashionable and fabulous, here is the REALFASHIONDAILY list of  2011 fashion predictions for real gals gleaned through my voracious consumption of Vogue, Elle, Lucky, LATimes Image Section, W, NY Times Fashion & Style, Harper’s Bazzar (to name a few) and distilled down to these 10 points:

1.  Hemlines are dropping. Yes, it’s true; we may no longer have to see glimpses of anatomy better left for a gynecolgist’s inspection, even if it belongs to a celebrity.  There is a theory, developed by the Wharton School of Business, that when the economy is down, hemlines drop accordingly.  Read more at New York hemline index 2011 Articles, New York hemline index 2011 …

2.  Nude remains a legitimate color.  So keep all your nude toned shoes and clothing, this trend will stick around for at least another year.

3.  Blue rules. Big for Spring and Summer is blue in the entire blue spectrum from blue-violet to royal blue to turquoise to cerulean.

4.  Ethnic influences. Tribal ikat prints, Asian motifs and Indian influences can be seen in collections from favorite designers like David Longshaw,L.A.M.B. and Nannette Lepore  and even ALDO shoes features these colorful and graphic patterns.

5.  Go crazy with color and pattern. Designers are mixing it up – stripes and prints florals and stripes, all in a rainbow of color.  Be bold and you can dress to follow this trend.

6.  Nature calls. Global warming and the attention to natural or recycled materials and eco practices has become a real movement in the fashion world.  To dress and accessorize accordingly read up at Eco Fashion World.

7.  Go with the flow. The trend towards palazzo pants and blousey maxi dresses means a more forgiving alternative to stuffing a curvaceous body into a super skinny silhouette.  Get yourself to a thrift store or resale shop to scoop up these retro looks before others notice them on the street!

8.  Dressy casual. Perhaps you, like me, have noted this confusing phrase on a party invitation.  It stems from our current culture of taking what was formerly tough work or gym clothes, like denim or sweatsuits and making them suitable for day wear and even party wear.  This trend has taken hold like a virus and remains strong for 2011.  Here are some great examples – the pant and bustier are from Talbots!:

9.  Drop your heel height. Great news! You now have an alternative to sky high heels that is real comfortable-kitten heels and slingbacks, like these by Adrienne Vittadini shown below, are back!

10.  London calling. With the royal wedding in the works and the summer Olympics of 2012 beckoning beyond all things British will be in vogue. To find your influences check out looks from Topshop Unique Spring 2011 RTW and Kate Middleton’s Spot-On Princess Style – Fashion + Beauty on Shine.  And, if you find yourself in London anytime soon check out the newly refurbished Luxury 5-Star Hotel | Four Seasons Hotel London at Park Lane or the W London Hotel, Leicester Square | Opening February 14th 2011 …
